| A. |
My name is Wang Mei-Mei. I was born
on April 1st 1978………。 |
| C. |
提醒您-一定要用打字的,最好用電腦以便修改,並務必要用
"拼字文法檢查" 切記!! |

Statement of Purpose
LLM
When I entered university
in 1992, Taiwan was undergoing drastic political transition,
shifting from Authoritarian to Democracy. The long repressed
freedom and human rights belief affected every aspect
of our society, particularly our political and legal
system. No longer acting as a tool used by the authority
for strict social control, the highly logical legal
system began to develop and represent the ideology and
execution of fair and justice. At that time, I became
tremendously interested in law and passed a very competitive
National College & University Entrance Exam to study
in the prestigious Soochow University Department of
Law.
Soochow University
Department of Law is renowned for its teaching in Comparative
Jurisprudence and Commercial Law. Students must go through
a five-year program to thoroughly understand Continental
Law and Anglo-American Law. The required first year
JD courses include American Constitution, American Criminal
Law, Contracts, Torts and etc. In addition, the commercial
law covers company law for both Taiwan and the US, tax
law and legal statues related to stock and bonds. Considering
Taiwan's goal in building a healthy and efficient financial
market to replace Hong Kong and Singapore in becoming
Asia-Pacific Financial Center, I chose to concentrate
my study in this field. Aside from legal courses related
to Stock and Bonds and Tax Law, I also took copyright
Law, International Economics, and International Organizations:
GATT WTO and etc. Outside of class, I was on the
Soochow University Baseball Team and was the captain
for the team from 1992 to 1995.
After graduation from
Soochow University, I was one of the only five students
in my class passing the National Graduate School Entrance
Exam. In Graduate Law Institute, I further researched
the ideological backgrounds and history of our legal
process, procedures and the legislation of legal statues.
Through my study, I hoped to have a deeper understanding
and gain insight to our legal system instead of merely
practicing legal statues mechanically. My graduate courses
included Current Economics, Political Science, Social
Beliefs, and Ideology. I also strengthen
my understanding in Methodology. My study in graduate
school greatly benefited my legal pursuit. As a result,
I was selected to participate in National Cheng-Chi
University Academic Visit to the Mainland China. Upon
finishing graduate school, I started my job in a future
trading company. With my legal background, I was an
auditor for my company, in charge of setting internal
company regulations and participating in auditing rules
of securities and futures exchange commission.
My two years of work
experience has deepened my understanding of Taiwan's
financial capitalist market. Because Taiwan is far behind
from other countries in its structure or regulations,
it is not qualified to take on the role of Asia-Pacific
Financial Center. In particularly, Taiwan lacks professional
knowledge in its secondary capital market management
and control in related products and regulations. Often,
regulations are borrowed from other countries to be
cut and paste to get by the legislative needs despite
the fact that these regulations may not suit Taiwan's
market situation. Because of the lack of adequate knowledge
of other countries' legal structures, conflicts among
the different regulations we borrowed can be observed
everywhere. To overcome these conflicts and problems
in our legislation, various government departments make
up their own rules when they see fit. This temporary
relief has not only caused tremendous confusion in management;
it has also provided loophole for businesses to get
through normal operations. Taiwan's management of its
capitalist market is similar to those of other Asia
countries in its overemphasize on increasing trade amount
while neglecting market stability. As a result, businesses
have enormous power to make unreasonable demands. Meanwhile,
administrative organization intrudes openly interfere
market functioning. This inefficiency in our legal structures
has repeated financial crises and market crushes. Not
only our capitalist market failed it function, investors
and enterprises are victimized; hence negatively influenced
Taiwan's future economic development. Presently, I hope
to enter LL.M. program in the US, a highly effective
financial market with advance legal environment to support
it. With the knowledge received in the LL.M. program,
I plan to help create new financial instruments and
establish a legal environment in good conditions to
improve efficiency, lessen risks in our capitalist market
and improved Taiwan's financial international competitiveness.
I have been involved
in Taiwan's futures industry from the its beginning.
During this four years, I have been involved in the
establishment of various related regulations and legal
statues. I find that the US has the most developed and
advanced financial market and related legal structure
and to date, Taiwan still borrows most of its legal
procedures from the U.S. As a result, I hope to study
various courses necessary for building Taiwan's future
financial market, such as corporate law, security and
futures, management of capitalist market, merge, tax
law, negotiation and international economics. I hope
to gained a more complete understanding to related legal
structure, in order to elevate my ability to help strengthen
Taiwan's international financial market and overcome
any obstacles we may encounter. Upon finishing LL.M.
program, I plan to take employment at government agency
to be in charge of policy making and legislation, particularly
in the area of globalizing and enhancing our capitalist
market. In addition, I plan to become a professor at
university to introduce fundamental knowledge and pass
on information to students.

Study Plan
Electrical Engineering, B.S.
Nothing can deter
my ambition to advance and gain in-depth knowledge in
the field of electrical engineering. Electrical engineering
has long been the symbol for high tech industry and
is considered an essential element in modern society.
It is also a subject that highly interests me.
My study at Taipei
Institute of Technology has furthered my understanding
in the field of electrical engineering. In addition
to foundation courses, courses such as Control Concept,
Basic Industrial Electrical Engineering and Application,
Digital Circuit Application, Mechanical Engineering,
Control of Electric Motor, and Generating Engineering
provided me with advanced knowledge. As important as
academic pursuit, while in school I sharpened my ability
to think in logical manner, gather data, and overcome
any obstacles. I was most interested in subjects such
as communications, control system and application of
electronics. After graduating from Taipei Institute
of Technology, I decided to advance in these areas.
Following professors' suggestions and my careful consideration,
I find Georgia Institute of Technology to be
the most ideal institution for me. I believe your excellent
faculty and facility will satisfy my desire to learn.
While at Taipei
Institute of Technology, I took Electronics Instrumentation.
This class introduced wave filter, transistor characteristics,
and digital IC design. The year before graduation was
also my most fulfilling year. I studied about automatic
control, frequency response analysis, stability, and
control system design. In my elective course Electromagnetic,
I developed knowledge of electrostatics, magnetostatics,
Maxwell's equation, radiation and propagation of electromagnetic
concepts. My other elective course Industrial Electronics
helped me gain understanding in industrial electronic
elements and control mechanism, and digital electronics
circuits. These three courses together enlighten me
with knowledge in the three major fields: control, communication
and electronics.
Taipei Institute
of Technology requires every graduate to complete
a thesis project with a selected advising professor.
A teammate and I chose 'the Equipment of Automatic
Production' as our thesis topic and focused on connecting
mechanical arms, warehouse system, lathe, mill and conveyor
to allow material be processed through this automatic
system. While doing the project, I applied knowledge
learned in classes, such as data collection, situation
simulation and analysis. We encountered many unforeseen
problems, such as difficulty in finding elements, incompatibility
between real life situation and theories, mechanical
problems and differences in options between my teammate
and I. However, it was because of the many problems,
I matured as a person and an engineer. With perseverance
and serious attitude, I worked out all the problems
with my teammate. We consulted with our advising professor
many times and after many all nights of tests and analysis,
we produced a project that we were very proud of and
earned an 'A' on the project. Our project placed top
10th out of 230 projects and was granted
an honorary award. Even more importantly, I learned
a lot. The project has also taught me how to work in
teams and the importance of teamwork.
I participated in
the intern program at Taipei Institute of Technology
and worked at AAA Plastics Corp, XXX International Computer
Inc, and YYY Chemicals & Fiber Corp. These hands-on
intern experiences provided me opportunities to better
understand the industry. My employers highly praised
my performance as I received 'A's for the internship.
After graduation from Taipei Institute of Technology,
I entered the military and during the 2 years I was
able to apply the electrical engineering theories learned
in school to many real life situations and further developed
my potential.
The diverse and professional
curriculum at Georgia Institute of Technology
is the greatest attraction to me. I hope to develop
advance knowledge in the areas of communication system,
electronic application and control system. At the same
time, information of other supporting fields such as
computer network, digital signal processing and IC design
is also essential. I hope to become a student at Georgia
Institute of Technology. I am confident I have the
ability to accept any challenges that may come my way.

Personal Statement
大學部
My parents have been
involved in educating youth their entire life. My father
is an elementary school principle and my mother a schoolteacher.
In their packed schedule, their own children's educational
needs are still their top priority. I have the advantage
of being one of the twins with an elder brother. We
shared a lot of experiences growing up. In addition
to always paying attention to our school work and making
sure we understand the importance of having a good and
solid education, my parents spend much time in taking
my brother and I to museums and theaters, and travelling
with us. Abundant resources were available to my brother
and I and we have taken advantage of these opportunities.
I have decided to follow my parent's path and pursue
a career in the education field.
With both parents
being in the education field, I have been able to observe
and learn many teaching techniques from them. For example,
I learned the best way to teach students to memorize
nouns or formulas is to use intellectual methods and
practices, because reasoning works better than cramming.
I have also noticed that when talking with students,
teachers should take the psychological prospective into
consideration as well. I believe that everyone appreciates
a certain degree of decent respect, particularly in
his/her learning experience.
Moreover, I was allowed
an inside look at Taiwan's education system. I feel
Taiwan's education needs improvement. For example, student
clubs and associations in Taiwanese school system need
to generate more input from diversified programs. Students'
activities need improvement both in terms of quality
and quantity. However, in Taiwan, educators do not provide
enough support to schools in terms of funding and human
resources to improve the quality of Taiwanese student's
education.
My parents' influences
have highlighted my interest in Psychology and Education.
I believe teachers play an important role in students'
development. They may use different methods to explore
and stimulate students potential. Watching my parents,
I realize there is nothing more satisfying to a teacher
than watching students grow and mature academically
or personally. I have made my career decision long ago
to become a teacher or a guidance counselor. I would
like to continue my studies in the US as I can learn
not only the most advanced teaching theories and methods,
but I can also learn from being a student in US's open
learning environment. By studying in the US, I will
have more international exposure and broaden my horizons.
Studying with people from diverse backgrounds will be
an excellent opportunity for me to enrich my study experience.
I hope to absorb knowledge both in and outside of classroom
and share it with my students one-day.
It is my hope that
under the guidance of your faculty and with the use
of your facilities, I shall be able to pursue further
knowledge in the education field. Fulfillment of this
objective will not only satisfy my intellectual curiosity,
but also enable me to make greater contribution to my
country.
