Merica, now entering its 40th year, has grown from its humble beginnings as a sole English language school to a diversified family of companies including Justice Travel, Middle-West Publishing House, Merica Application Counseling Office, and Pan-American International Education Foundation. Today Merica is in the process of extending its services to high school students so as to provide an even more complete package of educational services. Merica's management philosophy has always been to provide a complete package of services that integrate overseas study resources, the latest developments in the field, excellent teaching, and a comfortable environment for study. This management philosophy has helped Merica make the dreams of countless students to study abroad come true. In turn, Merica's students have responded to this management philosophy by supporting Merica's efforts enthusiastically. As a result, Merica has been able to attract even more students, outstanding faculty and educational resources as well as upgrade its software capabilities and hardware facilities. The support of outstanding alumni and their experience has created a virtuous circle that has allowed Merica to help more students achieve their goals.

Merica has been Taiwan's leading language school throughout its existence and is now synonymous with study abroad counseling. Merica has earned its excellent reputation by learning, adapting, and progressing. Moreover, because Merica firmly believes in giving back to the community, the Mericlub and Pan-American International Education Foundation were established to help support Taiwan education. Merica has integrated all its resources to provide students with many free services so that they do not simply undergo language training but also have the opportunity to research their study plans effectively and attend relevant workshops.

Merica continuously acquires examinations from ETS, monitors changes in test questions, and analyzes new trends in testing so as to prepare students to deal with new developments. In preparation for the July 2000 launch date of the computer adaptive TOEFL test, Merica has teamed up with a leading American Internet company and developed an on-line course using the latest interactive Internet technology. The course not only offers a learning environment that has been completely localized for Chinese, but also takes advantage of the Internet's instantaneous speed. Students can receive answers immediately after they complete a test.

Merica has also built Merica Smart Site, Taiwan's first intelligent web site designed to meet the challenges of today's rapidly evolving technologies. The site offers customized information and interactive services including examinations for study abroad, introduction to application procedures, departure preparations, and the expertise and experience of leading local teachers. Targeting the needs of Taiwanese students, the system also provides exclusive access in Taiwan to the Embark.com, formerly known as CollegeEdge, On-Line Applications. Embark.com's services include information about 6,000 American colleges and universities among its more than 50,000 pages. Merica hopes that the convenience of the Internet and its global reach will lead Chinese students all over the world to study abroad.

Merica is aggressively adapting to the new challenges of the 21st century and is positioned to prepare students for study abroad through constructive competition.
